When you first find out you are pregnant there are so many things to think about, what you need to buy, what life will be like after the baby, how will you afford it? How the baby will arrive and what happens after can sometimes seem far from your thoughts and,of course, even if you don't think about it, that baby will arrive!
What we do know is your birth experience will stay part of your family story forever and it's worth investing in. Antenatal classes cover so many of the practicalities; like when to go to hospital, what to pack in your bag, what does labour look like, what pain relief options are there? But, more importantly the process of taking part gives you time to focus on your new arrival, discuss your feelings, develop a tool kit for your labour and touch base with your partner about some of the choices you would like to make together for birth and beyond.
We believe that information and communication gives you power and choices and that's what our courses are all about!
Are your courses only for first time parents?
Absolutely not! Some courses may be more suited to those exploring their options for the first time, but our courses are also suitable for parents who are planning subsequent births who may want a refresher or to explore some different options this time. Courses are also a great opportunity to meet other expectant parents and to make local connections whether this is your first or last baby!
How are your courses different?
Like most antenatal courses we cover all the basics. However, after several years working as an antenatal teacher and Doula the courses we now run have been carefully chosen, written and 'tweaked' from experience of working with local couples and birth units. This is not textbook teaching it's based on experience of real couples, real births and real babies. All of our courses are friendly, flexible and designed so that there are no awkward games, silly questions and plenty of opportunity to explore what really matters to you! We now run home-based courses as we have found location matters and couples relax more in a home environment. Class numbers are small with a maximum of 4 couples, giving you more time to explore your options, ask questions and to get to know each other too. And if a group class isn't for you we offer private courses and can also tailor-make a course including the elements most important for your family.
